TWO DISCIPLINES, ONE VISIBILITY SYSTEM

From being found
to being the answer.

SEO positions your presence in search. GEO prepares your knowledge so AI models can understand, cite and recommend it. They do not compete: they amplify each other.

THE THESIS

GEO does not replace SEO.
It expands its surface of impact.

Generative models do not discover the world from scratch. They rely on an ecosystem of pages, entities, sources and trust signals. SEO creates that digital footprint; GEO makes it easy to interpret and use as an answer.

Assess how to apply it to my case
01

What is the difference between SEO and GEO?

SEO works to make a page crawlable, indexable, understandable and able to rank for search demand. GEO extends that work so a brand's knowledge is easy to retrieve, interpret, cite and recommend in generative answers. They share the same foundation —technical accessibility, intent, authority, evidence and usefulness— but monitor additional surfaces and units of success.

02

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. Google says foundational SEO practices still apply to its AI search experiences and that no special markup is required to appear in them. A page still needs to be accessible, indexable and relevant. GEO adds clarity, entities, evidence, answer portability and measurement across generative engines; it does not remove the SEO foundation.

03

What makes content more citable by generative engines?

Direct answers, bounded claims, identifiable authorship, dates, contextualised data and links to primary sources all help. The academic study that introduced GEO evaluated 10,000 queries and, in its experimental setting, strategies such as adding citations, statistics and quotations produced visibility gains of up to 40%; a Perplexity test reported gains of up to 37%. These are study results that varied by domain and query, not a universal guarantee.

04

Does FAQPage markup improve rankings or guarantee visibility?

No. JSON-LD helps express structure explicitly and should represent content that is also visible to users, but it does not guarantee rankings or mentions. Google retired its FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026. We use the markup for semantic consistency and machine interoperability, not as a ranking shortcut.

05

What technical requirements help ChatGPT discover a website?

Pages should be public, crawlable and governed by coherent robots rules. OpenAI distinguishes OAI-SearchBot, used to surface websites in ChatGPT Search, from GPTBot, used for model training. Their controls are independent: an organisation can allow search crawling while blocking training crawling. Technical accessibility does not guarantee a citation, but it prevents configuration from excluding the site.

06

How should an SEO/GEO strategy be measured?

Use a combined scorecard: indexation, rankings, CTR, qualified traffic and conversion for SEO; presence, share of voice, mentions, citations, answer accuracy, sentiment, referrals and assisted conversions for GEO. Because generative answers can vary, repeat a stable panel of prompts, engines and observation times. mAIster connects that baseline to modules, owners and a 90-day roadmap so observations become executable decisions.
